Jargon Buster (1.2) Touch Technologies

This second post deals with touch technologies.

The mainstream touchscreen technologies are the Resistive touchscreen and Capacitive touchscreen. The former is used in budget touchscreen devices and the latter in high-end devices, but slowly capacitive touchscreen is making its way into the budget segment with quite a few mobile phones in the market already using this touch technology. So what exactly is Capacitive or Resistive touchscreen???

We are going to start from today a jargon buster series in which we would be familiarizing and explaining to you the various terms of the technology world. The series would be divided into various posts. Each post would deal with different fields of technology. We are going to start this series with a jargon buster on mobile phones.

Jargon buster (1.1) positioning methods

This is the first part of this series. It includes jargon terms relating to the positioning methods that are provided on our mobile devices..

Gps - GPS is the short form for Global Positioning System and it is used to locate one's position on the earth. It communicates with satellites to calculate your position in terms of latitude, longitude and altitude. Combine this data with a map and you know where you are standing. Mapping softwares use this technique to support all other associated features like navigation, geotagging, real time traffic updates, friend finder and more. Most mid range phones these days come with inbuilt gps recievers and usually have mapping software preloaded on them. On a nokia phone you would get ovi maps, on an android phone you get google maps and so on..

Although we had planned to do a jargon buster on mobile phone terms but, due to a sudden announcement of our internal exams by our college we could not do much work on it. As of now we have been able to do only one part of this series. Check out the next post..
