The leading smartphone operating systems at the time are the iOS and the Android while Nokia seems to be lagging behind as people still not consider S60 5th edition or S^3 as user friendly as the Android or iOS and the much awaited meego is still nowhere to be seen.
The Blackberry phones have their own target audience and so for a general smartphone user, the two main choices are Android or the iPhone.
My personal opinion is that iOS is better than android though presently Android has more devices and is the hot thing right now.
People say that more the choices are, better it is but when you have around 10 devices of almost same hardware and operating system and just a different branding you tend to get confused. This is not the case with iPhone. At any point of time you have only two models in the market with one being the latest iteration with the latest hardware and the other, one generatin older. So you dont have any confusion. If you have the money you buy the latest one and if you cant afford it, you buy the older one.
The iOs is still the preferred platform all over the world as all the applications are released for it and it has the largest database of more than 4lakh applications and a whopping 10,00,00,00,000+ downloads!
Apple release over-the-air updates for all its devices at the same time, as the software as well as the hardware is controlled by it. Most of the Android devices never run the latest version and more often than not remain stuck with the version they were sold with.
How many Android phones in India run the Gingerbread? Not many. But I am sure almost all the iPhones run the iOs version 4.3 which is the latest one.
Another thing i would like to say is that an iPhone model after its release remains the latest version or the flagship model for atleast one year as Apple releases one iPhone every year. This means after buying the latest iPhone, you can rest assured that your device wont get outdated for atleast 1 year. This is not the case with Android. A new model of an Android flagship device from one or the other company is release every month or so, which means that if you spend 30k and buy an Android device, it'll be outdated before you show it to all your friends.
iPhone still has the higher oomphh factor than any other mobile phone in the world.
In India owning an iPhone alone adds loads of class and makes you quite a few degrees cooler. Girls start talking to you because you have THE iPhone (this one's a bit exaggerated but i think you got my point).
So these according to me are the reasons why iOS or for that matter, iPhone is better than an Android phone.
