Improving Cricket Games: Miscellaneous

There is Batting, Bowling and Fielding... But there's more to cricket, at least in a video game. So here I'll be talking about all those "other" things.

Better graphics better graphics better graphics
The better the graphics, the better the experience, at least visually. Graphics in cricket games at present are below the industry standard right now. I mean, look at ICC's official WC11 game and compare it with FIFA11, for instance, you will understand what I mean to say. I would also like to point out specific areas in graphics where they need to focus more. First of it is player faces and build. All players in Cric07 for the Indian side look the same except for Harbhajan Singh, because he wears a turban. We need more accurate faces, at least for big names in each side like Tendulkar, Dravid, Dhoni etc. for India. Also, connection of ball with the bat should also be made to look more natural. If you look closely, you will notice that the ball, instead of actually connecting with the bat, just hovers around the bat for a moment and then moves in the direction it is directed. This looks even more blatant in the replays.

Multi player mode
A good game, especially a sports based is one which allows gamers to play among themselves instead of those artificially intelligent players. This feature was not present in EA's version but is present in Ashes Cricket 2009, still I found it worth mentioning.

Career Mode
Even this one is also not a new feature in sports games, but as far as I know, it has not yet been included in a cricket game. Won't it be cool if you will have just one player to show your skill in the team instead of 11 and then winning the match for the team would be an altogether different feeling.

Team Campaign Mode
This mode should include matches that are currently being played in International cricket. For example, Champions League is currently taking place, so connecting with web and then creating series would be appreciated by all as it would lend a fresh feeling because you will feel connected with the happenings in real world.

Roster Update
There should be an option to download the newer rosters as they are available. Playing with old and retired players or those who are currently not active in the international circuit is so uncool.

Player Growth and Team Growth
When a player in a game scores runs or takes wickets, it should lead to some increase in its rating with more permanent effect. For example, if a batsman Mr. X is scoring very heavily in the past few games, then he should get the benefit by a permanent increase in its rating points. These rating points can also increase for specific attributes, say for the six hitting ability or the defensive technique (although anyone rarely plays a defensive shot).
I already mentioned about form in my previous post but as they say, "Form is temporary, class is permanent".

Commentary
I have noticed many times that when I hit the first six in the over, the commentator says,"That's six sixes off the over, quite brilliant batting!", or even if the shot is played by coming down the track and smacking for a four the commentator says," Sometimes a graceful shot like this goes for a boundary". Commentators should be more aware of what's happening in the game. In real life, the commentators often tell you a few stats here and there related to the present state of the game. The game can be connected to a web database like that of Cricinfo and pull some records off it.

So these were my suggestions about improvement in cricket games. Post your suggestions too in the comments section.
